16/1- 20+km hike to sembawang from school. right leg kinda cramped up on the way, left leg soon obediently followed and the rest of the way was a struggle along with everyone else, with kevin yaseer and i lagging behind. actually met some NSmen in some forest- i was near the front at that time and thought i saw some little lights ahead in the path, turned out later they were coming from men fully dressed in combat gear, with rifles as well. "oh, cadet scouts.." and they let us through. haha mr azmi actually went forward sometime then to make sure there wasn't any live firing exercise nearby.
eventually reached sembawang around 3.30am. about 7.5 hours in total, with the aid of teh trusty ipod and some h2o. trance music really makes you work like a slave. i got higher and higher as we got nearer- my legs somehow felt like the jelly i made some weeks back. but we made it, and oh look there were some people camping near the beach as well. still awake- wondering what they were doing :o
finally got the tents up- two for us and 1 for our self proclaimed 'supreme leader'. i was the first one in to tie a some strings in the tent and promptly fell asleep after that. woke up 1 hour later by the rest of them playing bluff. joined in for 1 game, won, fell asleep. woke up about 2 hours later. i think everyone's legs were crushed- but they healed pretty fast. not so for mr azmi who smsed us that it felt as if a ton of bricks had fallen on his legs haha.
sunday- toll house choc chip cookies. being lazy i replaced the 1 cup of chopped nuts with chocolate chips so there was an obscene amount of it in the dough; and best of all chucked the whole 250g of butter in because i was too lazy to slice off the 25g excess butter the recipe didn't need. probably overcreamed the dough as well since i kept running back and forth from the kitchen and the comp to check the recipe.
bad move.
pretty much every cookie turned out FLAT after baking. to make matters worse about 50% of them suffered casualties while i was lifting them off the supposedly nonstick cookie tray. ended up eating most of the devastated cookies and giving the rest to my brother when got sick of them. tried greasing the cookie sheets with butter the following batches despite the risk of it acting as a fryer and grilling the cookies. same result- stuck.
eventually chucked the rest of the cookie dough into the fridge to let a chill. finished the rest of it yesterday- this time it did pretty well. and didn't stick to the tray for some reason. i think i'll stick to slices from now on- cookies cause too much trauma.
well two days of school have passed. nothing fantastic has happened- in fact everything was pretty boring other than the funny relationship talk today and the tour of the chinese medicine place. i was SO looking forward to it and it turned out they all spoke in chinese. so basically junyang who was sitting next to me would interpret abit, then we would play the number game, then repeat.
they had some people volunteer for the acupuncture thing- they really did stick needles into them. sadistic i would say, but apparently it works. they were showing us on the screen how to locate our acupuncture points. i was feeling around for a pair at the back, then there was this old doctor that came up behind and said, "lai, wo bang ni!" then he gave me some massive prick on my neck and OOMPH i nearly died from that. then he started laughing and walked away and said something like, that it would be "shu fu" later. whatever that means.
then there was this tea-making contest. chuck 3 ingredients in, boil it. if the judges like it you win! well some chinese woman came over and did everything for us...while jy, me, duane and oopsiforgothisname threw in some extra stuff. then while the thing was boiling we named our tea TECK SENG TEA in honour of the great man. oops and we disobeyed the rule of using up to 3 herbs only. but some other group had some huge mass of herbs inside their pot so i guess it didn't really matter.
unfortunately our tea didn't make top 5! although i think it tasted pretty nice and light. but that's that.
tomorrow we have some recycling project to do. 'make something usable with recycled materials'. forgot who's in my group and we don't have any contact with each other. perfect! and thursday there's the juggling course i signed up for...who knows why i did that. should've gone along with nini tun's webpage designing session so i could slack off with every other ex-4.13er.
and schools ends at 12.40 every day. i could live with this.
