wednesday: using recycled materials, construct a functional item. marks given for aesthetic appeal, presentation, functionality, blah blah blah. called palmer the day before to find out whether we were actually going to do anything. brought a stack of newspapers. our group consisted of me palmer hafiz ian wong and daniel aka quincy.

so when we got to school all we had was a bunch of newspapers and nothing else. our idea was quite simple and innovative, really. pile up a bunch of newspapers and there we have a chair! feeling bored? reach behind your bottom and grab a paper to read.

unfortunately we abandoned the idea for some reason and went down to the sac to find stuff that could be used. found a box on the way down and used it to carry the stuff. so we scavenged around and found a used can and bottle and bought 2 styrofoam cups. then found some dried seeds and whatnot, chucked them into the can, bottle and cups. taped the mouths of the 2 styrofoam cups together, sealed the mouth of the can, screwed on the cap of the bottle.

and there we had our own set of maracas. whatever palmer called them. then palmer and ian started making the powerpoint presentation for our group. somehow they both ended up disappearing halfway and i finished it. with no thumbdrive to save it in. and then i fell asleep in the library...

got up, groggy and all that and went back all the way to 5.12 to get a flashdrive to save it in; thank you edmond wherever you are. so we presented at the end of the day. a terrible mess it was- hafiz and some others actually sang a song while shaking the maracas, not going to the beat at all. and i denounced all biodegradable products saying they would wear out whereas ours wouldn't...

another amazing day today. we got to watch an episode of the simpsons after watching the TOK teachers trying to get it all fixed up. haha it was really funny- pinchy the lobster and homer and the sadistic ending. then answer some questions about the video- although i think they were there just to justify us watching it.

business lecture was no different. watched segments of 2 videos till time ran out. and then some really *interesting* english a1 briefing during which i fell asleep till some teacher at the back caught me. the teacher actually got an applause at the end- a 'semi-ironic' one though as said by mr connnor.

then the finals of the recycled products competition. of course our product didn't make it into the finals for today. turns out the top 4 were a usb powered fan, foosball table, gadget that fed ur pets water by some physics law, and arthit and tze li and their suitcase.

i kinda liked the suitcase- well the design was good. and arthits presentation...left much to be desired but was funny haha. pet-waterfeeding-gadget designed by albert, jerry, brian, kohar and someone else. scholarly spirit at work i guess. was quite creative and unlike many of our inventions, useful. foosball table group was so serious. come on the product was a game they should've fooled around a bit with it. but compared to the rest of our...products it was really quite good. usb powered fan was the best. when amos plugged it into the usb port some 'current overflow' error came out and everyone starting laughing so hard. but they still won and since they went to all the trouble to make it they deserve it i guess.

cny celebrations tomorrow. and a lovely 5 day hol. truly an ideal school life.
