4.13 bbq was fun :D
haozhong, the master chef. haha i was quite worried at first at the stack of charcoal he was building on the firestarter- even walter called it a little babylon- but everything seemed to work out fine after that. the food was great, but probably because henry spammed the butter on everything. gah, i feel sick now. had some chips and soda before the bbq actually began. and i think that filled half my stomach >< ugh. haha but it was so nice to see everyone again. well, most of everyone.
IOP. i think i don't have much choice other than to compare TWO stories from east, west. i really don't want to let go of chekhov and zulu- its quite a nice story to write about. shall get to reading the other stories later. and i feel quite sorry for those bio EE students whose topics are killed off by that new law by IBO- its really quite an inappropriate time for that. i wonder how the year 6s are going to cope.
test results on tuesday :X this is one time i am totally NOT looking forward to. but there isn't anything much that can be about it. eoys WILL be different. and, tangjie said the lowest in our class for chinese is 5 points!! haha i couldn't believe it at first. i honestly expected 2 points or so for it- not understanding ANY passage in the paper at all was seriously discouraging. ha, that gives me hope for a 7 in the chinese IB exam this year. sigh, everyone else is pretty guaranteed a 7, no matter how much they say they're bad at chinese =.= yup.
the lyrics of songs seem somehow fun to analyse nowadays. like viva la vida. so many Biblical references, yet nothing certain fits in. and poems. they seem to be getting funner- their meanings are actually something you have put in effort for to understand, and are really quite meaningful when you do. like this love poem- quite complex in a way but really expresses the poet's message well.
That Smile
That smile; never a frown- no, it never was, could never be. even the weariest were abolutely Captivated, led into a trance
Venus yet Lamia all stood in wonder as she climbed the stairs
Steps of candles- flames burning bright pale as the faces of those watching- and gone in a hiss
As higher, higher, higher she climbed the candles
Her beauty was only there to see Her sweetness was all that could only be Her charm was just too much for me; I cheered her on As did everyone else.
How could the staircase resist the advances of such a dainty one a gentle Milady, only passing through with such a lovely smile
And she landed lightly at the top an arduous journey made soft Smiling, she gazed down the staircase, a mound of Melted wax.
Yet she smiled.
But no, there was nothing left to see And yet another staircase lay in front But her sweet face prevailed And she began the climb once more,
One candle at a time, one by one.
That dazzling smile never faded not even as each candle did.
For there were always many more ahead that lit up
That smile.
