psle results are out today. guess there's not much for my brother to do now but just work hard in whatever school he gets in.
sgh attachment was really quite comical. plastic surgery! we got to sit in at some lecture by this seriously pro professor (pun intended). we saw a lot of images flashed on the screen- dog bite victims, crash victims, human bite victims...there was a lot of blood. but i guess you'll have to get used to it if you want to get into this field.
haha and in the occupational therapy room. freecellgame#31 :D or was the mousehunting nerse worse. thank goodness they're not in emergency medicine or something like that :X patient: "AAH HELP" nurse: "hold on, 30 secs to sounding horn..." haha. we went around the wards and saw burn victims, a cancer patient and a guy in a coma. they actually exercise his joints by moving his body parts several times a day so the muscles don't shorten/bones don't fuse due to all the inactivity. but it was really, kind of sad to touch someone whom you know may never ever wake up again. he'd been in the coma for a month thus far and the doctor said his hopes of recovery were slim. sad, really. but i guess they see a lot of this and have to get used to it if they want to keep their sanity.
i wonder how you're supposed to sympathize with the patient and yet detach yourself emotionally from him/her. you need to feel for the patient...yet keep a distance. so in case he/she doesn't make it so won't be affected so much. i don't know how this is going to turn out for me if i make it into the medical field.
one doctor told us about the 'bad' side about medschool after complaining that everyone only focused about the 'noble' side. apparently you'll get 6 overnight calls a month during which you'll be working after your 8-5 shift onward through the night till the next morning. if your department's kind they'll give you a break and allow you to go back home to sleep at around 12 noon- but if they're not you keep on working till 5 as usual. that's, 33 hours of nonstop work if my fail math is correct. the doc also talked about the desensitivity to emotion you need to have since you'll be seeing death quite a lot too. nothing small at all.
but i think i can do it.
moving on. finally ran out of celine dion songs ): haha but samuel was nice enough to send me quite a number of fallout 3 songs. old, jazzy ones. they're quite nice! kay but they're super old. hmm, he's supposed to send me the whole classical album today. looking forward. sitex 2009 starts today. the days are quite bad for visiting the show- first day (today) is usually too crowded to visit and the third and fourth days are weekend days aka ubercrowded. second day would be a good time to visit- unfortunately look, there's a public holiday on it. sigh i guess i'll still be going tomorrow since i'm too lazy to get out on the weekend :X don't think i'll be buying much after all though. the prices mentioned on digital life > my pocket money.
looks like the rest of the week is going to be some nice peaceful time at home by myself since the rest of my family's off to bali. well, suits me :) though it can get pretty lonely sometimes. no, i do not count my maid as a person i can talk to ><
