every year we have this gathering called 'Conventions'. it would take too long to explain everything, but it's mostly a time where preachers from other countries come over to share their testimonies. more can be learnt here. these are some memoirs- unfortunately they are incomplete. some parts are brief and only contain references to verses- read them up if you want. words can't express how grateful i was to be at that convention- it helped much especially what auntie Chor Wan said. it is a struggle to put thought into action sometimes, but lately things have been getting much better- and i am very happy. but i need to sort some things out soon and i hope all will turn out well.
anyway. please pass these thoughts on if you find them helpful! thank you so much :)
THURSDAY – 7.30PM MEETING Hymn 182: Lord, We Are Met Together Hymn 207: Holy Spirit - Tim’s choice
Message – Tim: Purity.
John 2:13-end. Jesus during the time of the Passover, driving out the oxen and dove sellers and overturning the tables of the money changers. He went straight to the root of the problem. It may have not been nice for the money changers at all, seeing all their coins being scattered all over the place or for the animal sellers when they were chased out. We may feel the same way when God goes to the root of the problem in our hearts- we may feel angry, that injustice has been done to us, but it is necessary if we are to be pure.
Matthew 5:8. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Message – Fong May Lin. Same choice of hymn as Tim.
Hosea 6:1-2.
Hymn 276: Precious Thought – Gusfin’s choice
Message – Gusfin Guntang: Faith.
John 11:14-15. Jesus knew his disciples’ faith was weak and had to be strengthened.
John 11:25-26.
God and Jesus understand us and want us to be with Them in eternity. Faith comes not by eloquence and preaching, but by God Himself.
FRIDAY – 10.00AM MEETING Hymn 173: God Is Here Prayers Hymn 223 – Chor Wan’s choice
Message – Lye Chor Wan: Wisdom. Revelations 5:5-12. Verse 12: the qualities of the lion. Wisdom that is divine and from God is the mark of true royalty. James 1:5. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God.” God’s wisdom is pure. Solomon’s ruling over the two women who brought the baby before him- the woman who accepted Solomon’s offer of having half of the (killed) baby; she had a want, a terrible possessiveness. Do we have that? The real mother also wanted the baby very badly, but she loved the child very much and was willing to let go of it so the baby could live, and leave its fate to God. Hymn 335: No East or West – Williams’s choice
Message – Williams Mann
Philipians 1:27, 2:2, 3:16, 4:2. Being of one mind, of the same spirit. Perhaps being in Conventions makes us realize that we have not been in perfect harmony with God’s Will. We need this fine tuning to be tuned unto His frequency. All of us do- just as pretty much every instrument in the world needs tuning now and then. When all of us are tuned to the life of Jesus, we will follow the same God, respond similarly to His voice, feed on the same pastures and be of the same mind.
“I once went to a home which had a piano. I knew by the name on the piano that it was a very fine one, but when I began playing on it, it produced the most terrible sounds I have ever heard. I knew there was something wrong and opened up the piano, and found that a sheet of material had fallen in between the hammers and strings. When I removed that material and began playing once more, the piano produced lovely music that was true to the name it bore.” Just like how the material kept the strings from the hammers, if something is preventing us from being in contact with God, He may open us up and stir us up, take something away from our lives or do whatever it takes to make contact with us. And it is for the best, so that we may bear much spiritual fruit, just as the piano was able to make beautiful music after being handled that way.
“I was once at a home, and I saw a young boy with a guitar. The guitar was a very good one, but he was dragging it behind him the whole time. I took it from him and found it was out of tune, so I helped him tune it and played it for some time before returning it to him. But after that, he still continued dragging the guitar on the ground behind him, wherever he went. Friends, do not be like that boy.” We are given the opportunity to have a great spiritual life with God, but only if we do not drag it behind other priorities such as enjoying the pleasures of this world and slowly destroying the spiritual part of us that wants to be with God.
“There was once a family which had a used cello. It was very old, but it was continually used till extremely out of tune and shape, until it was decided that it should be brought to a repairman who could restore it to its original state. When the cello was brought to a repairman, he touched the cello and said, “I am not worthy to restore this at all”. The family didn’t know the cello was over 300 years old was very, very valuable. The repairman knew instantly from its touch that he would ruin it if he was to try and restore it, and that the instrument had to be given to an expert to restore instead.” We, too, need restoration- but we cannot do it ourselves or only with the help with others- we need the Expert’s help.
Hymn 60: Teach Me Thy Way
Testimonies
We must decrease for Him to increase.
“At the show in the Zoo, the seal would lie patiently on its back until its master was done before it received its fish. Just like the seal, if we completely obey our Master, we will receive a great reward.
Hymn 80: Do Not Fear to Follow Jesus – Colin’s choice
Message – Colin Brodie. Purity.
P – Purer unto God, who gives us strength to overcome temptation. U – Unity. Birds of the same feather flock together. If Abel, Cain, Esau and Jacob were at a Convention together, it wouldn’t be long till Cain and Esau were having fellowship with one another, Abel and Jacob doing the same.s R – Revelation. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. E – Empty. Our closet needs to be empty of dead skeletons. We need to keep the unseen, hidden rooms of our life clean.
There is no greater love than from one who would lay down his life for his friends. “There was an earthquake in China, and after it was over rescuers were going over the rubble, searching for survivors. They found a woman but noted she was dead, and moved on. But they later discovered her 6-month old baby, safely hidden under her kneeling figure and a cell phone that had a message typed out by the mother before her death that said – “Son, if you survive this, know that I will always love you.” Perhaps after understanding his mother’s last message to him when he grew up, the child would treasure his life a bit more and live it more profitably. Similarly, so should we be grateful for Jesus’s sacrifice on Calvary and live our lives with much gratitude and love.
“I was once playing Scrabble with my aunt at night. It was after I had gone into the work, and I was a good player at the game and wanted to win very badly. We had an argument over how the points should be scored, but halfway she suddenly went quiet and let me have my way. I won the game. But later, I was reading the scoring rules at the back of the Scrabble rulebook, and realized that my aunt was perfectly correct, and though she had let me have my way, she had kept her spirit right.” It’s not the first steps that matter, it’s the last that do.
Don’t become a part of the problem.
FRIDAY – 7.00PM MEETING Hymn 227: Lord, Be Not Silent Hymn 257: Thy Child – Anong’s choice
Message – Anong Chattanont: Being like a child.
About serving God when she first started in the work, and now. “When I first went into the Work, I was very happy do to do anything that was required. Now, I pray for the heart of a little child, that I might have that same spirit that I had when I started out in the Work. I still need the help of God, the teaching of God, every day.”
Philipians 2:5-8. 5: Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:8: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
The longer we are God’s Way, the more we think we know everything. But that’s wrong. We must learn from Jesus every day. It’s not easy to accept correction from others, but we must learn to do so.
Hymn 332: Lord, How Good – Elainemarie’s choice
Message – Elainemarie Atcheson: God’s people as one.
“I was encouraged by what I learnt from a tree that was near the sister’s camp here in Singapore. It was an umbrella tree, and it was beautiful the first time I saw it. It had leaves coming up from the top, and more drooping below. But I noticed later that it wasn’t a single tree- it was composed of the umbrella tree, vines and ferns, all forming one beautiful sight. The ferns were covering some gnarled, rather rough spots of the tree, beautifying it.” It is good if God’s people can exist like that, coexisting beautifully.
Galatians 6:1-2. 1: Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2: Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
I Samuel 23:16. And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God. Jonathan wasn’t there to compete with David for his place or status, he was there to encourage him and strengthen David’s faith in God. Genesis 45. After many years, when Joseph spoke to his brothers that’d sold him long before, he spoke words that came out of many years of meditation, and they were words of love. He didn’t say anything about what they’d done to him, but his words just brought beauty to the situation.
Hymn 195: Lord, We Rest In Peace Abiding Testimonies
God doesn’t promise us a rosy future, but he promises us his love. Never quit the field. Leave the world behind.
Hymn 229: The Still, Small Voice – Gordon’s choice
Message – Gordon Winkler
Luke 13:34. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! “I grew up on a farm and learnt a lot from the animals and fowl there. There was an old hen, she made a lot of noise and never had any chicks of her own. She would even go nestle on other hens’ eggs, and we tried to get that mentality out of her in many ways- I even dunked her in some cold water once. But even that didn’t work- the mindset God had put in her didn’t change. So one day we gave her about ten or twelve eggs, and boy, was she delighted. She sat on them for weeks, slowly losing fat, till they hatched into healthy young chicks. They would follow her around the farm, and she was very protective of them, and would even fight with the dog to keep them safe. Sometimes in the field she’d make a squawking sound, and the chicks would all rush to her, knowing she’d found a yummy worm for them. They recognized the sound of food. We need to recognize that sound too. God in His kindness seeks to feed His people. We can have a healthy body, but if we don’t have a healthy soul, and how about that. The manna God provided for the people of Israel was sufficient for the journey. It was enough for the young, enough for the middle aged and enough for the old. There was no chocolate coated manna. God doesn’t such things with pizzaz. Jesus said, “I am the Living Bread.””
“It was said in the Old Testament of Jesus, ‘He shall eat butter and honey.’ I lived on a farm, and so I know how those are made. Butter is made from cream. The cream is pounded until two parts form- the butter, and the buttermilk. The butter, that’s the good thing we want. Butter is made through separation. Separation is what Jesus partook of in this world. If we feel separated and left out of the world because of how we behave as children of God, we are partaking of the best God has for us.” “Honey comes from the work of bees. They zoom right past every other part of the flower, and go directly for the nectar. The honey is collected from the beehives after the bees are done with the nectar. Honey is produced through selection. Jesus partook in selection- in his life on earth, he chose what was good, and what would please God.”
“If we want life, we must partake in Jesus’s life. It’s not easy, it’s not popular, but it’s what we must do if we want to have real life in us. A good question to us would be; ‘How are we different from the world?’ Beauty isn’t skin deep. Is there anything that allows others to tell us apart from the rest of this world?” “The old hen I mentioned earlier once gave a loud shriek in the field; a warning. All the small chicks immediately went running for shelter. She cared for the safety of her young. Many people care for our money, our clothes, our safety here on earth, but how many care for our soul? God does. The hen had spotted a hawk, circling in the sky, and knew she was no match for it. There are things we should follow, things we should fight and things we should flee from. We are no match for the devil, the enemy of our souls. The chicks had to respond quickly, and run for their lives. Likewise, we have to heed God’s warnings to us before it’s too late. It is wonderful to have quick responses to God’s calls. We don’t need to be intelligent, or clever, but we need to be responsive.
We had some pests in the farm, and we were paid 2 cents for each pest we caught. It didn’t matter whether we caught them in a trap, poisoned them or got them in any other way, but we would be paid as long as that pest was dead. Just like that, the devil uses any method possible to find a way into our lives and keep us from serving God. The devil does that by any means.”
“And there would be another call from the old hen, and this time all the chicks would come hurrying to the henhouse, and then huddle under the wings of the hen. They couldn’t see each other, but they felt the same peace each one of them did. You all have brothers in Canada, America and in many other places, and you will probably never see them, but it is good if we can feel the same peace God gives His children. The devil will try and keep us busy the whole time, but we must make time for our soul to rest.”
FRIDAY – 7.00PM MEETING Hymn 61: Sitting At the Feet of Jesus Hymn 111: Lay Down Your Burden - Minh’s choice
Message – Minh Cong: John 8.
Hymn 237: Oh God, I Thank Thee – Pearl’s choice
Message – Pearl Hook: On the first harvest on Singapore.
Joshua 2:1. And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into a harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
“Joshua told the spies to spy out the land, especially Jericho. We later found out why- there was a child of God there whom He wanted to be spared. Just like how God saw seeking souls on the island of Singapore, and so sent workers over.” Mark 6:48, when the disciples were rowing the boat in the harsh wind. And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. “It is written that the fourth watch was at 4am – 6am in the morning, a very dark time. We may think no one appreciates the effort we put into doing God’s will, but Jesus sees and appreciates it.”
“There was an elderly couple, who lived some kilometers from the fellowship meeting they attended on Sundays. Every Sunday, they’d get in their car and drive there for the meeting. One Sunday, their car broke down and they were unable to get it to start. There wasn’t a repairman around for miles. Some moments later, their neighbor suddenly turned up and said, ‘What has happened? I see your car go past my house every Sunday, at 10.30, so exact that I can even set my watch to the time your car passes.’ The neighbor got the car all fixed up, and the elderly couple was able to get to the fellowship meeting after all. We don’t know who’s watching our lives or manner of life, but we should always uphold them so those who are could be encouraged.”
Hymn 346: I Cannot Now Go Back (Verses 1, 2) – Ching rung’s choice
Message – Yen Ching-rung
“Before I went into the work, I used to sing popular songs. When some people heard I had gone into the work after some time, they were disappointed because they liked to hear me sing. Sometimes, on the road I hear people singing those popular songs, and they sound so familiar to me, and I know I am singing along in my heart. And I know that I am in a dangerous situation.”
Mark 8:22-26. “The first thing Jesus did with the blind man was to immediately bring him out of the town he was in. Then Jesus healed the man and told him never to go back, ever. Just like this, God brings us out of places our human nature likes to dwell in before handling our problems. We can’t get any help from those places- they’re helpless, hopeless. We must get out of them before God has a chance to deal with our problems.”
“Let me tell you about some of my experiences. When I was a prison guard, we had many prisoners who were drug addicts. Before they went to prison, they had to go for medical treatment to get rid of the drugs inside them. The medical treatment could 100% remove all traces of drugs from their bodies, but these prisoners were the most likely we would be seeing again after they were released. After they served their jail time, they would go out and be tempted by their old friends who had introduced them to the drugs they took. This was why Jesus commanded the blind man never to return to the town again.”
“There was a man who had a very well trained dog. There came a visitor to his place, and the dog’s owner began telling him about how wonderful his dog was and how it could obey every single command he asked of it. The owner began by commanding the dog to play dead. The dog lay down and pretended it was dead. It didn’t even respond after the visitor kicked the dog. Then, the visitor had an idea. He went to the fridge and got a piece of meat. Then he went to the fire and began cooking it. The dog soon smelt the meat cooking, and its tail started wagging. Soon it was up and about, begging for some meat. Our human nature is binded to us. We can never completely get rid of it till we die. But we have to push it down, and let God’s will in our lives take precedence over it.”
Hymn 346: I Cannot Now Go Back (Verses 3, 4)
SATURDAY – 10.00AM MEETING
Hymn 206: Gracious Redeemer Hymn 322: Help Me, Lord – Vivien’s choice
Message – Vivien Arulsingam: Fear of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 10:12-13. 12: And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.13: To keep the commandments of the Lord , and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?
“When we have the fear of God, it is the beginning of heavenly wisdom. It keeps us from doing things that would bring pain to the heart of God. The fear of the Lord can be seen in Abraham when he offered up his son, though it was very painful of him to do so, because it was the will of the Lord. This fear moves us to do God’s will, and not to withhold anything from Him.”
Hymn 277: The Next Step – Lloyd’s choice
Message – Lloyd Morgan
Hebrews 12:25. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turned away from him that speaketh from heaven: “Many times, God spoke to the children of Israel in the wilderness through His servant Moses. They did not take heed to the words of Moses, and so they perished there.”
Hymn 202: O Help Us Lord (Verses 1, 2)
Testimonies
“When I was young, Convention time didn’t mean much to me. I used to look at my watch from time to time, and literally counted down the hours till Convention ended. Now, I see how much I have taken Convention time for granted, and the thoughts passed on have been precious to me. I came into Convention with much pain in my heart, and I’ve heard what I really needed to hear, and I’m very, very thankful for these thoughts. I just wanted to share a thought passed on at another Convention a year or so ago- it goes, ‘The winner isn’t the one who walks out of Convention with the most notes- the winner is the person who puts most of what he’s learnt into action in his life.’ I hope we could all come out of Convention as winners.”
Hymn 202: O Help Us, Lord (Verses 3, 4)
Message – Mike Thorsteinson: The Holy Spirit. Acts 19:1-7, Romans 8:13. “The Holy Spirit is the key to belonging to God. Romans 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not in the flesh, but after the Spirit. With the Holy Spirit, our sins and condemnations would be no more. To live our whole time without repentance would be an unforgivable act. The Holy Spirit, however, has perfect understanding of the will of God and the human nature, and makes intercession for us.”
“When I was young, I wanted to learn how to play the trombone. My parents weren’t very keen on the idea, probably at the thought of me and that instrument in my room, making a whole bunch of noise. Instead, they suggested I learnt how to play the violin instead, as some of my relatives played it beautifully. So I played my violin over the years. I didn’t know how to tune it, and I’d go through an entire playing session with an untuned violin. Sometimes I’d play it extra hard, making more noise, so that my parents would ‘repent’. Sometime later I got hold of a harmonica, and it was always in tune, so from then on I was able to tune my violin to the harmonica any time I wanted to. It’s good to have to Holy Spirit wherever we go, so we can adjust ourselves to its tune.”
“Seat belts in a car were becoming compulsory in a country. First for the driver, then the passenger in the front seat and finally the passengers behind. But not everyone liked to put on the seat belts. So the seat belt company came up with an idea. If someone in the car didn’t have their seat belt fastened, an alarm would ring. Those people in the car would find the alarm noisy and irritating, and so they’d put on their seat belts properly. That alarm took away their peace. Likewise, God may introduce things and events into our lives that take away our peace- but that is because we may otherwise fail to realize His part in our lives.”
“There’s a saying that goes, ‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going’. When things become challenging, that’s when those formidable ones get down to the rough work. The changes we have to make in our lives for us to fit into God’s plan may be difficult, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can do it.”
“Wine has many similarities to the Holy Spirit. Of course, there are some very big differences too. Wine brings comfort to a great number of people in the world- but so does the Holy Spirit, in a much purer way. Drinking wine can easily become a habit and addiction, but how good it is if we can continually check back with the Holy Spirit to make sure that we’re on the right track. Wine can also bring us many friends- so does the Holy Spirit, but the latter brings us a wholly different type of company. Drinking wine makes many people bold, and they behave very differently when under the influence of the drink. But the Holy Spirit can do the same for both ways, and in a much more positive manner, too. The Holy spirit empowers us to do the good that we would otherwise not do, and not do the evil that we would otherwise do.”
SATURDAY – 3.30PM MEETING
Hymn 344: Leave Me Not Alone Hymn 216: Thy Perfect Love (Verses 1,2, 4) – Mai Hoa’s choice
Message – Mai Hoa
“Sometimes in the Way of God, we have struggles. The first steps we take are important, the following steps we take are also important but the last steps we take are the most important.”
“Children learn things from home, from their parents. When a child learns how to walk and take its first steps, it has more courage if his/her parent stands opposite. The child has even more courage if the parent opposite the child has his or her hands wide open, ready to catch the child should it fall. God is like this. He doesn’t want us to fall, but sometimes we do fall. We must have faith. Peter’s experience walking on the sea- he cried, ‘Lord, save me!’ and Jesus replied, ‘O ye of little faith!’” “Before I went into the work, I had a cough- a cold. I thought it might be tuberculosis but I felt that it might be an excuse brewing in my heart, and so I still offered myself up.”
“We must have faith. Faith leads to hope, a hope for joy and peace in eternity.”
Hymn 323: Youth – Merle’s choice
Message – Merle Schulz
“We don’t need anything more than Christ, and we can’t do with anything less.” “We once went to a friend’s home for dinner, and it was a big meal. We were very, very, full after that. Then, we went to another friend’s home to stay for the night. The friend there had made a huge chocolate pudding, and asked us, ‘Can I tempt you?’ We had to refuse, because we were so full and had no more space in our stomachs. God has made provision for us, so we can reject the world’s temptations because we are satisfied in Him.”
“Daniel 12:1 – Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. Pulse is lentils. Daniel and his friends were given lentils and water- a bland diet. When the people of the world look upon our lives, they may think the same- that we live on a bland diet. It is good to have an appetite for the things of our soul.”
Hymn 33: Give of Your Best – under 40s stand and sing for the first two verses, and everyone else join in the third.
Testimonies – esp. from those under 40 - youth.
Hymn 4: O Lamb of God – Morris’s choice. ‘Blood-stained footprints’ written in verse 1- the writer of this hymn and his companion walked 20 miles on foot to visit a distant person, and came upon a closed door, being rejected by the owner of that house. They walked all the way back, and by the time they got back, their feet were bleeding from all that walking.
Message – Morris Grovum: The Book of Revelation. Rev:4.
“Let me tell you my testimony. 26 years ago, I was at a dining table with Uncle Gordon Winkler and another brother worker. I was a student at that time, going to university, and someone had showed me a boardinghouse where I could stay. I would only find out a long time later that that person was a friend. The lady of the boardinghouse had only one question for me, “Do you drink or smoke?” Well, somehow I managed to get by that one. When I first saw Uncle Gordon Winkler and the other worker, they had just come back from their first stint of labour in Korea, and I tell you, I thought they were workers that’d just come back from working on the oil patch there or something. That’s how far I was from the Truth. I never guessed we’d [Gordon Winkler and I] be speaking in the same place, on the same platform but here we are, and it’s nice.”
“I knew once of a companion, and he was a cheeky one. He stayed at a friends’ home once, and throughout the week he asked the professing teenage girl, ‘Found any money yet?’.‘No,’ she’d reply. And on Sunday morning she shook her fist at him, for there inside her Bible was a coin. She’d only opened her Bible on Sunday morning to come up with something to speak.”
“When we pray, we talk to God. When we meditate, God can speak to us.
“Knowing the Truth isn’t going to save us. The Spirit of God in our hearts is what’s going to do so.”
Revelations 4:2 – And immediately I was in the Spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. In a court, the judge says the least, but he always has the last word. One day, God will have the last word. And He be will a righteous judge.
“Death to a child of God is like payday for a working man. And every working man looks forward to payday.”
Eternity won’t be all rest, it will be a time of fellowship and serving.
“Thunder.Wakes people up. Sometimes we fail to realize our need and God brings events and things into our lives to wake us up, to help us feel our need. But we can be so insensitive to our need for God, even death can fail to wake us up; we were at a woman’s funeral once, and her son was there, crying and crying, and saying he’d come to the meetings from then on. But a few days later we visited him in his music shop and he wouldn’t listen to us at all.”
“God gives His servants courage. Jesus sent out his disciples as lambs among wolves. That may not be a very nice thought, but it was possible with the courage that was provided for them.”
Revelations 4:8 – And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. The creatures had eyes within. We need to look within ourselves and be sure that our motives are pure.
SATURDAY – 7.00PM MEETING Hymn 16: Yesterday, Today, Forever Hymn 225: Master, Speak – Tracy’s choice
Message – Tracy: John 10:27
John 10:27 – My sheep hear my voice, and I know him, and they follow me: We must open our hearts and ears; the message of God is so important. Hymn 39: The Way of God – Trudy’s choice
Message – Trudy: John 14:6
John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. We need God’s rules to wipe our eyes so we can see the Way better.
Hymn 362: Longings – Hoa’s choice
Message – Hoa The Gospel lifts us up to be encouraged, not to be proud. Forget the things left behind and reach out for the things ahead. It’s better to go with one hand into Heaven than with two hands into Hell. Ecclesiastes 7:5: It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. There was once this wife who wanted her husband to praise her all the time, even if that meant that he had to lie to her- as long as her itchy ear got scratched, she was satisfied. There was this 8 year old girl in a meeting in Vietnam: she said in her testimony, “The lard of this world is flattery.” It is better to receive chastise than rebuke.
