The math test will be 'incredibly hard'.
'If you pass this test, you'll get at least a 6 in the IB exam for sure.'
...'expects 80% of the level to fail'.
i shall take some time off life to blog, now.
piano lesson on saturday was particularly enjoyable :) i love how my pieces allow depth of emotion- and my teacher says she enjoys my playing! haha she overshot lesson time by about an hour, that was so nice. she tried inspiring me by playing pieces from higher grades- in fact, i saw i liszt manuscript on the stand when i first entered the room. apparently, she'd been practising liszt's liebestraume (no.3) because i'd asked her to play it last year; she'd needed practice.
and so she played it there and then for me. when the first note was struck- literally- i smiled immediately and my heart started going into a frenzy. like WHEEEEEEEE OMG SO NICEEE hahaha okay i was really getting high at the middle part, it's sooo rich with passion. and then the two crazy parts where you have to move both hands simultaneously in a ridiculously rapid fashion, striking chords progressively. it's such a beautiful piece :) words can't describe it AT ALL.
Liebestraume No. 3 - Arthur Rubinstein i think i've linked this before, but no harm because it's such a great piece :) and not one you hear too often since it requires "dextrous fingerwork and high degree of technical ability", so says my favourite website. and i've seen it for myself- even my music teacher didn't play it perfectly.
she played schumann's strange lands and people too! it's soooo nice (: she said i had the technical skill for it- after all, it really isn't that challenging because its rather slow...i think. was hoping she'd let me learn it but instead she pushed me to bach's invention no.8- which i'd quite rightfully say is a speed demon, but it's still awesome! haha oh well maybe one day, schumann.
Of Strange Lands and People - Robert Schumann the pianist stalled for awhile toward the end but well, most other recordings on youtube were asian. no racist! but generally they tend to be too swift in playing- but i thrive on emotion.
Invention No. 8 - Bach see what i mean. he's a harmless cute looking 8 year old child, but oh look, he has the incomparable advantage of being asian. okay, so this piece is meant to be played fast but even then i was thinking he played it a bit too fast...oh well.
i have yet to listen to sarasate's carmen fantasy in its entirety. but gil shaham is unpossibly skilled. he looks as if he's devoting all his energy to fooling around with his facial features LOL. like handling the violin's too easy haha. oh oh and i found out that my family doctor is a super avid fan of piano concerts!! Dr chang tou liang- he actually has a blog for it. oh man and i didn't know till yesterday? haha thanks nic i must be living in a hole.
oh look, i've digressed much from my music lesson. well after that i went to ljs for lunch. i was particularly annoyed at them. the picture of the grilled chicken entree looked impossibly appetizing: for 6.70, you had a slab of grilled chicken drizzled with brown sauce over rice, a little tortilla drenched in a white sauce, fries, mashed potato, lettuce and tomato. and they were having a discount! making the meal $5 only. gullible me got taken in and ordered a meal, thinking, how awesome! finally ljs is getting less and less ripoff (i think their other meals are quite expensive). i was wrong.
the chicken that came on my plate was rectangular shaped and looked like it was defrosted. i mean, grilled chicken looks...grilled! that didn't look grilled. and there was no brown sauce. if anything counts, there was a miniature pool of what looked like oil in a little depression in the middle of the piece of chicken. oh, and there were no mashed potato, lettuce and tomato. you had to pay '$1.70 more' for that. so much for calling it a discount if you removed ingredients. what's more, the plate they gave me was WHITE. not BLACK like it was in the picture. okay it might sound like an overstatement, but listen to this first: a mother of a classmate of mine got a bunch of 'discount coupons' for these kinds of meals, and when she saw the black plates she went "oh they have hot plates!! let's go let's go" you get the idea.
truly, art is a lie that brings us further away from the truth. the truth being good food, that is...
the concert i went to on saturday was pretty good. problem was, i didn't want to go! too much backlog. but my mum pleaded and pleaded...and since the next day was mother's day, how could i disappoint her? the orchestra was awesome :) and so was the flutist! or flotist, whatever. but there was this man who kept coming onto the stage for prolonged periods of time and interrupted the orchestra with his loud voice. aiyo, kept disturbing the nice music. then two lady accomplices joined in and they were all so noisy i couldn't hear the orchestra. i think it was all a dirty plot to ruin the nice music of the orchestra and flutist. they must have been specially trained- one of the women was even codenamed "Delta". the man's name started with an 'A' so i suppose that stood for Alpha. once, the flutist and orchestra played flight of the bumblebee without interruption by these interfering folk, and it was awesomeee :D
oh, there were FIREWORKS! hahaha i think that was THE highlight of the evening actually. my mum'd actually told me about them at first but i'd forgot. so when they first came out...BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOM okay i got quite a shock. and so much for the 'no photography/videotaping allowed' rule, tons of people whipped out their iphones/phones/cameras to record the fireworks. okay fine, so did i. people seem curious that i recorded the fireworks and not the singing, but there was no singing i heard, only raspy voices, so i am unaware of any singing that took place. oh, but the flutist and orchestra were goood :)
boonhwee had tickets to the live transmission! haha i asked her for a lift back. we were supposed to meet 'at the fountain' after the concert ended- so i asked for directions 'to the fountain'. i got there. no sign of her. called each other, "but i'm at the fountain too!" but no luck.
"hey maybe there're two fountains!" "okay, how about we meet at the shuttle bus stop" *later* "okay im in front of the shuttle bus stop, where're you!?" "i'm at the shuttle bus stop too!" "what? maybe there're two bus stops too. okay i'm standing in front of a banner that says YTL Concert of Celebration 2010" "so am i!"
turns out there were TWO OF EVERYTHING. hahaha she was at the ginger gardens, 15 minutes away. so i told her to go first- i hitched a ride on some guy's golf cart-thingies to the shuttle bus stop. got a bus to queenstown mrt and went home from there.
hm, world lit topic.
