i take back what i posted about queens being a less viable option against void rays- just watched a replay some time ago where TheLittleOne used about 5 Queens to counter a vr rush by WhiteRa in some HDH invitational match. still, though, you need to scout early- TLO had 2 queens up by the time the first vr was out, and starting pumping out even more soon. since vrs will stop being produced once your opponent sees about 4-5 queens out, you're probably good to go and that means 5 queens out will allow to you to safely progress to a Lair. obviously, 5 queens from 1 hatch will take far too long- no problem for the usual zerg player since he expands early.
